You gotta love a five-year-old: all the energy, excitement and wonder at the world around them, all the creativity, the boundless enthusiasm but sometimes even five-year-olds get a little too flighty, and if your teen has taken flightiness with them as they matured, then you may be starting to get worried. You may even be considering a medical diagnosis to help deal with the condition. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to help your child focus before you turn to drugs. Here are three natural steps that you can take to help your child calm down enough to get things done:
Daily Exercise
Just getting an hour or so of exercise each day can help children of all ages contain their energy more effectively and focus on other tasks. When children do not stay active, that pent-up energy can be a serious source of distraction.
Enough Sleep
You would think a sleepy kid would be a calm kid, but if you have ever had a sleepy kid on your hands before, then you know that is far from the case. Children - even teens, regardless of what they are telling you - need 8½ to 10 hours of sleep a night. Not getting that much-needed rest can seriously impede your ability to accomplish things or stay on task.
Omega 3 Fatty Acids
Studies show that omega 3 deficiencies actually contribute to ADHD behavior, and children with diagnosed ADHD whose omega 3 deficiencies have been resolved often experience higher levels of focus and are able to function without medication. You should bear in mind, though, that a deficiency can take time to correct. You should not expect a change overnight.
By taking these steps before you turn to other measures, you can likely get your child's focus issue under control without having to resort to medication. Learn more about how omega 3 levels can impact behavior at omega-3.us
